Storage Facilities
Whilst in residence, you may store items only on a temporary basis. Each item
must be clearly marked with your name, your room number and date of storage.
On each floor, there is a small Trunk Room. The Trunk Room is used for
short-term storage of boxes, suitcases, winter overcoats or sporting equipment
provided there is available space. Access to the Trunk Room is arranged through
the SR on your floor. Residents living on the ground floor in B Block have to
store all their items in the Storage Shed as there is no Trunk Room on this
floor.
For longer term storage there is a Storage Shed located between A & B
Block. This unit is a large compactor therefore only boxes purchased from the
Hall Office can be stored here. You may gain admittance to the Storage Shed at
11am and 9pm each day. During Office hours contact the Office and outside Office
hours contact the Duty SR.
Whether residents use the Trunk Room or the Storage Shed, any packed items
must only be stored in the cardboard boxes sold at the Hall Office for $3.
Study Rooms
Krebs Room (Front)
The Krebs Room is a small study room provided for students to use at any
time. With two long tables, this is an ideal room for small groups. It is
commonplace for the Hall's Tutors to conduct their tutorials in the Krebs Room
in the evenings.
Art Room
B&G’s art room can be found in the laundry block at the end closest to D
block. This room is primarily for students who study at the School of Art. In
order to gain access to this room, you must contact the Office to obtain a key.
Tutorial Rooms
The tutorial rooms at the bottom of the central stairs may be used at any
time for study, provided this does not interfere with normal tutorial periods.
Library
The library can be found on the ground floor in Central Block and can be used
for quiet, yet social study. Residents staff the library seven nights a week
during the academic year. The library offers a range of materials, including
reference books and old exams. A scanner is also available for use by residents
during library hours.
The library also stocks more fun content such as fiction and non-fiction as
well as current magazines, including Cleo, Cosmopolitan, Mode, GQ and Time.
Games such as Pictionary, Scrabble, Monopoly and Twister are available, as are
music CDs. Games and CDs require a refundable deposit.
Furthermore, the library has coffee, tea and Milo, served with biscuits for
residents during each evening of the University Examination period. This is free
of charge.

Kitchen
The Kitchen is regarded as the “heart” of the hall. It is
generally the busiest place, at all times of day and night.
Every single resident is given a lockable cupboard in an
allocated kitchen. Each kitchen is fully equipped with stainless steal sinks,
gas ovens and gas stoves. Each resident also gets access to a fridge with an
allocated invidual space Residents must provide their own cooking utensils and
crockery items. Detergent, dish brushes and drying towels are provided by the
Hall. Each resident must maintain complete cleanliness in their kitchen,
cupboard and fridge, not only when it is their own mess. This will ensure a
clean and healthy cooking environment.
Regular inspections of the kitchen are conducted and in some
cases fines are inflicted upon all occupants of a kitchenette if it is not up to
standard.
Several newspapers are delivered to the Kitchen each morning…
The Canberra Times, The Australian, The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald and the
Financial Review. More Newspapers are available from the library.
Residents should make use of the recycling facilities in the
kitchen area. There are specific bins for plastic, glass and paper.
It is absolutely essential that footwear be worn at all times in
the Kitchen, and in all parts of the Hall. This is a Health and Safety
Regulation.

Laundry
Washing machines and dryers are available at the back of Central Block. Usage
of these machines is free, however residents must supply their own washing
powder and detergents. These facilities are used under the proviso that the Hall
accepts no responsibility for students clothes, irrespective of how damage or
loss occurs.
Music Rooms
B&G has six music rooms in Central Block, all on the ground floor.
Music students may obtain a key for the rooms and have priority over other
residents; however, any resident may gain access to practice in their own
personal time.
The keys are available from the Office.

Red Back Lounge
The Red Back Lounge is generally where people come to sit, relax, and
socialize.
This is where the billiard table, ping-pong table and the video games live.
During the academic year the bar is open every night until 10pm selling
drinks, chocolate, lollies etc… all the things that bars generally sell. You can
also buy pasta and various other meal constituates.
Alcohol is purchasable by residents over the age of 18.

variety of activities including guest lectures, symposiums, seminars,
performances, and Hall Balls. Residents may book, at least two weeks in advance,
one of the smaller Function Rooms for private dinner parties. Bookings can be
made through the Office subject to the Head's approval. Conditions apply.
Computer Rooms
The B&G Computer Rooms can be found in Central Block, one parallel to the
Administration Office and one on the ground floor. In the computer rooms there
are Apple iMac’s, and IBM Compatibles, all of which are connected to the B&G
printer located in the rear of the Computer Room. The computers are connected to
the ANU network, on which you may use your ANU internet quota. Email is also
available.
Although these computers may be used for recreational purposes to a limited
degree such as personal email, all academic purposes take complete precedence.
If there is a shortage of computers, any resident not using the computers for
academic reasons may be asked to leave.
